I’m in the Houston airport…

December 1, 2006

…wondering how my confirmed ticket to Dallas was cancelled, leaving me stranded for three hours with nothing to do other than what I usually do when I find myself in this unfortunate situation with absolutely no control over getting what I really want, which is to be on the plane I was originally booked on, filling the three hours with stuff I should have done in the time I had personally allotted for it, but didn’t do.

So, in one way at looking at my circumstance I am blessed – three hours of unexpected down-time — and in another I am screwed – sitting here in Houston instead of Dallas — and however you might think about it, and on either end of the Circumstance Spectrum ® I am both blessed and screwed and that’s the way life seems to be doesn’t it?

So, I’m obviously free to share with you how Dreaming saved my life by providing me with an opportunity to awaken the entrepreneur within me when, surprise, surprise, I actually believed he was alive and well when he actually was as moribund as a snail in its shell, stuck to the bottom of a banana plant leaf waiting for the wet weather to come.

That was me in 2004, in the unaware space that we all live in unwittingly when our life has come to a point of going no place other than to repeat what had got us there again and again, awareness not, imagination not, newness not, inspiration not, stuck in an airport we never really chose to be in, simply because somehow our ticket was cancelled, without notification, without a call, without anyone letting us know that we were about to come to an unannounced Stop.

My life was like that in my company in 2004, and my answer was to bring someone else in to do what I had stopped doing, to take the helm, to take the hand-off, to take the Vision and turn it into the next stage reality, called grow, grow, grow, while I, in my new phase of life, gathered my senses, reawakened my senses, re-stimulated my senses, reconstituted my senses, rediscovered my senses, called see, touch, smell, feel, hear, taste and all that, to become, what?, a new and inspired man again.

So, since 2004 that’s been my mantra…become a new and inspired man again…which means, to awaken the entrepreneur within, which means to discover what my Dream has become, what name would I give it if it had a name, how would I feel it inside me so that I could, I can, articulate it outside me, to you and to everyone else who would listen to me…my Vision, my Purpose, my Mission, my Friend.

And, as I sit here in Houston in Continental Airlines President Suite which they would only allow me to sit in despite my first class ticket, for the outrageous three hour price of $45, I realize how much my vitality is returning to me, as the process of the question which is continually arising, arising, arising in me, begins to take form, like a blaze of white light, in the form of the Dream which is becoming my own, living in me, as if in waiting for me to recognize it, speaking to me with its playful voice, singing to me with its siren song, about something, the Vision, I couldn’t see no matter how much I wanted to, how hard I tried, how many ways I tried to speak it, saying, singing, this, I AM, is here, and I AM patient, dear friend, and I will grow in you, dear friend, because I AM not apart from you, not a thing on its own, but I AM you, deep in your heart…the Vision will speak on its own!

And this is what it is:  I am here to speak of the entrepreneur, to speak of the visions of the millions upon millions, of the creative urge that exists in all of you, unheard, unheeded, unloved,  unprotected, unacknowledged, unnourished, unrelated, that One who is within every human being on the face of this earth.  I am dreaming of being the Walt Whitman of entrepreneurship, the unsung, truly misunderstood, genius of transformation, the one who sees, feels, and is moved deeply by the visions that live in his and her heart and head.  Spoken in the Word.  Spoken in the Poem.  Spoken wherever he is.  Spoken, even here, in Houston in an unanticipated layover.  Spoken to that One in you, who, stuck in Houston, discovers himself.  That One in you, who, stuck in your circumstances of life, finds yourself, not the one who is stuck, but the one who is never stuck, will never be stuck, who never will see stuck, who will, because he, you, I, we, are alive, vibrant, pure as the driven snow.

And that One is who I dream of awakening, everywhere I go.

Thank God for Houston, thank God for circumstances, thank God for awakening, thank God for being the One he created, with our hearts and our minds simply waiting to grow.

Love from Houston,

I am
